Follow-up Comment #5, patch #6353 (project duplicity):
Attaching a sample alternate implementation.
If people agree that this is useful, I will:
(1) Move the threading stuff out into a separate module with a documented
public interface.
(2) Add a command line option for this to be enabled. Having it enabled makes
it more difficult to debug problems since debug printouts will be
intermingled.
(3) As an extension of (2), automatically disable this feature if threading
is not supported by the platform.
