I don't particularly want to merge tags and interests, as I use/view them
slightly differently. (When I remember to use tags, that is, heh.) In both
cases, though, I have a haphazard lack of a system where some, I list with
very prosaic, straightforward names, and others, I'm much more
oblique/in-jokey. It's not that I'm hiding my interests in specific things,
it's more that I'm showing my affection for/knowledge of them by *not* using
a boring, standard tag.

Still, I do like the idea of highlighting certain tags on your profile,
though I'm not sure if it should be an automated thing (most frequently
used, most recent) or a "u pick" thing (here's what i consider my best
writing/here's some tags that really sum me up). And obviously it should
respect the same privacy limits as the existing tag pages ...

And I also like Jenett's suggestion of being able to link tags to interests
- though I wonder if that will make people more likely to have
straightforward interests and obscure tags, and how that will affect how
people find interesting discussions on the subjects in which they're
interested.
