I don't particularly want to merge tags and interests, as I use/view them slightly differently. (When I remember to use tags, that is, heh.) In both cases, though, I have a haphazard lack of a system where some, I list with very prosaic, straightforward names, and others, I'm much more oblique/in-jokey. It's not that I'm hiding my interests in specific things, it's more that I'm showing my affection for/knowledge of them by *not* using a boring, standard tag.
Still, I do like the idea of highlighting certain tags on your profile, though I'm not sure if it should be an automated thing (most frequently used, most recent) or a "u pick" thing (here's what i consider my best writing/here's some tags that really sum me up). And obviously it should respect the same privacy limits as the existing tag pages ...
