Ah, that's interesting - thanks for the (snipped) explanation above.  I'll just 
have to remember not to change my settings on LJ :)

That's certainly a compromise that would work for me - that way if my email 
provider suddenly starts eating mail I can just check the read messages on DW 
and otherwise just pay no attention.
