Jim,
I have the ICOM-756Pro and yes the radio is of use with DXbase. Dig out
your ICOM-756ProII owners manual and look at the rear panel connections.
You will find one there called CI-V Remote Control Jack. This is your
connection to the outside world! Icom in it's infinite wisdom, read chance
to sell you something else, did not build a RS232 serial interface into the
rig. Instead they put the RS232 interface into a box called a CT-17 Level
Converter. You run a mini jack stereo cable from the CI-V Remote Control
Jack to the CT-17. Then connect your RS232 serial interface cable between a
computer serial port and the CT-17. Go to DXBase Options and tell it what
you've done and to load frequency info from the rig. Now you can do some
rig control from DXbase. Also DXbase will poll the rig and bring back the
VFO frequency and mode info.

AES lists the CT-17 for $130, but I've heard of clones on the market for
less and some guys have built their own. Check the DXbase and/or WriteLog
archives or do a Google search.

DXbase? If so, what can be controlled, how, etc?
