Gary,

I have already done that step apparently when I was working on this a
few weeks ago as the file is in correct location and has the data in it.
I see all entries and can make changes to them etc so the file is OK and
in right location. It opens from modify host files also.

I checked the telnet address I'm trying to use and it opens on that same
machine in windows telnet program.......but not Dxbase. Any other
suggestions?

has you firewall been updated, whereas dxbase no longer has internet 
rights????

have you tried using a different dxtelnet server,

k3lr( i think thats the call) quit on me the other day, so i switched dx 
telnet servers.

about 15 minutes later I was able to switch back to k3lr
