Subject: Re: [Dxbase] Import/Export Issues
I do not want to get into a debate on this list about the issues and sorry
if I stepped on your toes.
>>>My only formal role in ADIF is "participant". I have informally served as
secretary, but that's purely administrative. So there are no toes for you to
step on.
It doesn't mean I will not try to anticipate that 59 definitions of modes
coming in as data from imported files but 59 does seem a bit closer to a
gazillion than what I expect most people would predict is the number of
modes.
>>>Whether there are 59 or 59 thousand, you are free to ignore all of them
except the subset you choose to support.
I joined the group abt a month ago and thought I saw discussion on 3.0 but
must have been mistaken.
>>>As I said, the idea of shifting to XML has been around for years, but has
made no real progress. In any event, its not an ADIF activity.
The standard was a good idea when WF1B came up with it in the early 90s and
as long as the software authors feel it is going in the right direction and
participate it can serve our users well.
>>>Since then, the landscape has been significantly changed by
specialization: we now have general purpose logging applications, contesting
applications, DXing applications, online logging applications, and
award-granting agencies that both consume and produce ADIF. Many users now
routinely move information from one application to another via ADIF on a
weekly if not daily basis -- if only to upload their most recent QSOs to
LotW or eQSL.
