I'm new to this list, so I don't know how kindly I'll be looked upon for
contributing to this OT thread, but I just wanted to say that I think that
the DynAPI is fantastic! It's an excellent idea and a really great
implementation of that idea. I do have quite a bit of Javascript and DHTML
experience, so I didn't have to go through tremendous growing pains using
it - but I think that the tutorials that are there are quite good.
I am hoping that I might actually be able to contribute to the project as I
get more familiar with the code.
To the developers: Please don't be discouraged, keep up the good work. It's
great karma.
Bob

I agree with Pascal. It's frustrating when new users come on board and then
say that "This is too hard to learn" or "Why isn't there a better tutorial?"
The people developing this are doing this because of their passion for
creating something special. They don't get paid. This isn't their full time
job. I use this library extensively and help answer questions in the forum
when I can, but I don't feel it's someone else's responsibility to make sure
I know how to use the code. If you are new to thins, take some time to
break things. Read the code and try to figure it out. Asking someone if
they have a working example and then complaining that it's not exactly what
you need is not learning how this works. Take the example and break it. Try
to modify it to your needs and if you get stuck, ask for help. But if what
you're doing hasn't been done before, people may not know the answer. If
that's the case, there won't be any answers to the question posted on the
forum. I've had several questions go unanswered, but instead of bitching
that people are ignoring me, I assumed no one had run across this particular
problem and then I tried to solve the problem myself. If you're looking for
a free, easy, cross-browser/cross-platform DHTML solution, I have news for
you: IT DOESN'T EXIST! At least not straight out of the box. You have to
learn to adapt.

6.2. Limited Javascript knowledge
"I want to use the DynAPI but have limited (or no) Javascript knowledge"
Sadly you'll need Javascript knowledge in most cases. You might get
something to work using copy-and-paste development, but once things go wrong
it will become difficult to fix things. At this time there are no
development tools available for the DynAPI, but hopefully this will change
in the future, making it possible to do WYSIWYG development.
This implies that it's not going to be a drop in solution. If you find that
discouraging, maybe you should stick to flat HTML.
Jon
I apologize for the rant, but I get frustrated when people complain that
things aren't easy enough.

For one, Mac browsers are not fully supported (Mac problems)
Alot of the widgets and other examples might actually brake because of
problems with the Widgets.
I understand that most people still think Widgets ARE the DynAPI, but at
this point Widgets are extensions / examples of DynAPI code. Seeing that the
DynAPI code is still being worked on and changed/modified/updated Widgets
might work one day , and fail another.
I don't think that making comments like "this is very discouraging" do
anything at all (at least not for me) this is Opensource, so EVERYONE could
help fix problems.. There are some very skilled developers working on this
project, and I truly believe that eventually a 100% working DynAPI will be
produced.... for v5- browsers.. v6+ browser will then be the next problem to
tackle.
Another thing about your mail, if you make comments like these, please show
us the problems your having.. and make sure to have read the f.a.q. and
tutorials. (maybe we should make these things available as the first thing
people see on the dynapi site)
anyway for now read the faq at
http://www.dynamic-core.net/core/files/faq.dynapi2.html for more info on the
DynAPI2.
there are also tutorials available at sourceforge, but they seem to be
broken because of sourceforge.
And I can safely say that the main core of the code will work on
IE4,5,NS4,NS6 at least on Windows (and I think Linux) .. there will ofcourse
be bugs, but without the DynAPI code you'll have a much harder time getting
things to work cross-browser.. because browsers are very discouraging.
(guess these comments DO get to me :)
