Thanks Leigh, and one more thing, as I didn't see anything too like a hint in the previous output, can you please download the ethregs utility from our sourceforge.net/projects/e1000 web site download area. and run it before and after you get the link down. it takes arguments like lspci does, so do this: bring up interface ethregs -c -s 7:d.1 > before get link down ethregs -c -s 7:d.1 > after that will allow me to see all the registers and compare before and after. we may have to do something special after this to get a read on your phy registers too.
