I like the idea of a desert garden.  I live on a coastal ridge in South 
Florida and sand spurs are the most hearty grass/weed in my yard.  Though 
it is dry on the sand, we are subject to frequent (daily) rains.  It 
makes this type of lawn/front yard very challenging.  I've planted a lot 
of trees and shrubs and keep the sandspurs mowed, but would appreciate 
more suggestions that are not real work intensive
