The shows are on Sunday night on the West Coast at 8:00PM on
Arts and Entertainment Cable Network (which is channel 30 for
me).
I have thought long and hard about the Orca in captivity
issue. Here, in Washington State we have the opportuntiy
to see the most magnificent creature in the world -
the Orca whale not in captivity.
However, when I think back to why I even became interested
in the Orca - it is because I first saw them in Marine Parks
in California. My love for the Orca brought me to the
west coast.
In this particular case, I must grudgingly agree that some animals
must be held in captivity for educational purposes. However,
I do not think that any more wild Orca should be captured.
They should breed them in captivity if they must.
I will not answer any flames on this topic. My opinion has
been carefully considered over years. My love for the Orca
is great and I go out sea kayaking dozens of times per year
to see them wild in our waters. I also have founded a non-profit
organization called Orca Friends Research Foundation which
documents MMPA violations in the Puget Sound regarding
Orca.
Unfortunately, people to not save what they do not love. And
people learn to love Orca in aquaria unless they are fortunate
to live in the Puget Sound area.
