Dear Kimberly, I have some very devout vegan friends who nevertheless acknowledge it's a life-long and frequently changing process. One such spent some time in Iceland, for example, and acknowledged she ate dairy there, else she would have starved to death. This is a woman who hadn't touched meat or dairy foods for many years. I think we grow spiritually by confronting this issue within ourself, and vowing to do what we can....it IS a process. But it not the only process going on, usually. Awakening compassion is a life-long goal; it takes place on many fronts, in my experience. Jane
