I'm not sure about the prank part of breast cancer/antiperspirants. Back
in 1990 or '91, my gynocologist in Baltimore, Md., suspected such a link
due to patterns of breast cancer. On a common sense level, when you bathe
delicate tissues year after year in chemicals, it seems possible that it
would affect those tissues (and the lymph nodes, etc.) health. After all,
what about environmental estrogens, etc? And...consider the synergistic
effects that I'm guessing many labs don't study. For example, what if you
not only use antiperspirants a lot, but smoke? Or live under power lines?
Or? Or?
hi arlene and monika and everyone else
your explanation could be right, arlene. sounds better than the original,
that's for sure. when i first received it actually was sent to me by this
brilliant trauma nurse. and he got it from another nurse. the hoax that
was passed around didn't use that explanation. it argued that the glands
in the arm pits were blocked from sweat production, this then kept waste in
your body and caused cancer. on a common sense level, that makes no sense
at all since you sweat all over. at any rate, there is a website,
http://www.urbanlegends.com where the history of the urban legend is
recounted and where medical experts have weighed in as well as links to the
breast cancer orgs that refute the claims. yes, we should be skeptical
always. which is why i wanted to know the source! :-) i know plenty of
people who just don't use it. who needs it really? ,my point was simply
that i think it's a good practice pass along whatever sources you have so
someone can check them out if they wish.
