Actually, straw bales have been used successfully in the humid South.
There is a straw bale mansion that was built in Alabama in the 1930's or
so that is apparently still doing fine. Myself, I'm in the process of
designing a timber framed house with straw bale infill. Next, I need to
find the land and money so it can get built.

<snip> Since we are building from scratch and trying to design a low
maintenance, eco
friendly home I'd appreciate hearing more about systems like radiant
heating,
insulated concrete etc. Timber frame was my first preference..but it seems
too
costly. And adobe or strawbale in the humid southeast doesn't excite me.
Best to all. Frank
