Good luck, Carol.
Yes, I am aware of that home in Alabama. In fact I had entrertained building
strawbale with timber frame. However unless you have the time and lumber and
labor( read extra hands you can count on ) to build it your self it can cost
a lot!
So due to time constraints, as well as labor constraints I'll need to build
quickly. hey I've been planning this for a long time...so please don't think
it's a hasty decision(BG)
I was on the strawbale list, and many of the alternative building lists. I
learned quite a bit but almost all have problems that must be handled well. I
just can't afford to naively go forward and then experience theses problems
later on that could require costly repairs etc. and then theirs possible
hassles with codes etc.
I like timber frame and plan to build a guest cottage later on from my own
trees...but that's down the road:)
Please remember that in the scheme of things the walls represent less than
25-20% of the construction cost of the home.
Good luck. Frank
Again...best wishes.
