Everyone still here? It has been a busy spring and i've
not felt like posting. We have a bunch of new members
who are probably wondering what this list is all about.
Well... it is about living ecologically and i guess that
is what everyone is doing. I can share what i've been
doing and why. The political climate got to me so i buried
myself in local projects. This has worked out very well
both from a personal reward standpoint and for its impact
on the local ecology. Here are some of the projects:
1. Obtained a sun oven and began cooking meals
using "whole" foods which need long cooking
times (grains, beans, veggie soups)
The reward is energy saving, cost savings,
and some of the best rice dishes i've ever
experienced.
2. Used sheet composting to create a small edible flower
and herb garden for summer salads. The harvest are
just beginning but already the variety of flowers and
herbs is having a big impact on meals.
3. Researched sub-tropical fruit and found some that
can be adapted to our cold climate. At first i
was worried that this might be another failed project
but so far the results are positive. We are now playing
with feijoa (pineapple guava) and a mandarin orange.
Both plants have edible flowers and fruit.
Questions? Announcements? Something to share? I'm back to projects
unless someone wants to talk.
