That's the best one yet. I do seem to sense a small amount of frustration in
our EDI community.
 This is a good outlet.

Subject: Stupid EDI Stories

A Systems application group is testing an upgraded version of their EDI
translator. One of the new features of the translator is support for
numbers up to 99,999,999,999.99 (two more positions than the previous
translator).

They decide to test it out by sending a 820 transaction to the company's
Bank, with a payment amount of 10 billion dollars. The 820 contains factual
payment information, including the bank transit and account numbers for
their company and one of their largest trading partners. They included all
the necessary checks and balances (832 Control Totals) to ensure that the
"test" mirrored production as close as possible. Most importantly, they
sent the file to the Bank's "production mailbox", not the test mailbox. The
Bank received the file, and processed it as a production payment.

Fortunately, the dollar amount exceeded the company's line of credit, and
alarms went off at the Bank. They contacted the company's Treasurer, who
was able to get the payment cancelled.

When the company's management questioned the sanity of the testing team, the
Systems Application Lead said, "Well, we did put a "T" in the ISA15 element
(Production/Test Indicator)."
