How about the 824 transaction set. It should allow electronic processing.

The purpose of the 864 is to convey a message in a human-readable form. The
data contained in the 864 is not intended to be processed electronically.

The 997 is to used to convey back to the trading partner the status of a
received message (accepted, rejected, .... etc.), and is intended to be
processed electronically.

The industry standard is not to use the 997 for common messages.

Would a 997 Functional Acknowledgement and 864 Text Message be feasible to
use for a Common Message?
