As others have noted, there are many tools that can give you an XML version
of an X12 document. Biztalk has a few built in, XMLSpy has a tool to import
text-documents (and Altova, the company that makes XMLSpy also have
MapForce, a powerhorse for translating), Tibco has a tool (can't think of
the name), etc.

If your trying to introduce an "XML guy" to X12, make sure that the
documents include a hierarchy. That will be the easiest way for him to
comprehend the document. The tutorial I wrote for xmlLinguist has an 850 in
XML format at http://www.sysonyx.com/xml-to-edi-850 which might help. Google
"XML EDI" and you should find tons of stuff.
