We are in the process of evaluating a software to manage Trading
Partners and also provide communication capabilities(EDI-INT). We are
currently a Gentran shop and most of our communication is done via VAN.

What we found was that most of the EDI Communication Softwares like
GIS, Inovis, etc are priced based on the Trading Partner count. Also,
the trading partner fee is counted while calculating the yearly
support fee.

I feel that this is ridiculous, because we continue pay money to these
people, even if we do not call them for support. Another interesting
thing is if the number of trading partners is have ( in our case it is
70), we will have to pay huge maintenance fee. Also, if we add another
50 trading partners, the maintenance fee will be increased.

Do you any of face the same situation ? If so, are you living with our
or is there a way out for all these trading partner based license
structure ? This mostly looks like manager/agent licensing structure.

thanx,
Plains.
