David, Drew: I have to disagree. If you are familiar with a concept of the Hub, you know that the Hub would charge everything back to the customer, whenever they have to pay for it. Commercehub would charge you back for the VAN Cost or for AS2 simply because they have to pay for it on their side. Initial Setup fee would compensate Implementation Cost and Cleo user license, and small monthly fee would go against the annual maintenance fee billed from Cleo.
You could negotiate with your .COM retailer to pay for your AS2 cost, but you know as well as I do its a bit of a stretch. Of course FTP is still free, but it could be such a headache, don't you think? The process did take forever as well. AS2 might be "worth the price" over FTP/PGP. Since the dot-com retailers are requesting you to do EDI via CommerceHub, and there are transaction charges to do so, most of my clients appreciate free communications. If my customer has AS2 connections with Walmart and CommerceHub - one TP has no charges, and the other does. It's the exact same thing.
