Joe, you are correct.  I have mapped using Gentran to the DB2 database on
the iSeries (AS400) using ODBC.  Works great for mapping and moving the
data.

It's been a long time since I've been near an AS440, but my recollection is
that it can expose its database via ODBC. If so, then, yes you can do the
normal SQLish things. Assuming they still do EBCDIC, I wouldn't be surprised
if there were some character translation things that the map would need to
do.

That's all map things. Certainly they would need to rebuild their maps, just
the same as if they transitioned from AS400 based Brand X to Brand Y
translators.
