We've been on the VAN for a couple years now, having moved from Sterling
and before that, Harbinger (or whatever the name de jour is).
As I think Art has mentioned, the Softshare prices are very reasonable, I
dont recall the specifics, but it was quite a bit less than the prices
from Sterling. The pricing is also straightforward, but you probably
really want to get the prices on the discount bundles, rather than the
posted prices.
We're using sFTP for the transport protocol. There has never been any
noticable downtime. While there are occaisonal FTP polls that dont
connect, the next poll will work. I figure that is just part of running
over the public Internet. None of our trading partners are on the
Softshare VAN, so everything is an interconnect. That hasnt been a problem
at all.
The mailbox management interface is OK. It is not as pretty as Sterling's.
One change that I would really like to see is they currently show all the
transaction times in UTC time. I would *love* to be able to set a user
time zone for display.
I think the bottom line is that it works well with minimal hassle at a
reasonable price.
