Michael,
You are absolutely correct. The customer can check to see if an interconnect is being used. But they really have to be militant about it and follow through on checking. Obviously, some do check. However, from a technical stand point it should not matter. It's merely a matter of preference by the customer not technology driven need. ________________________________ From: Kotoyan, Michael [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, January 24, 2008 12:34 PM To: Thompson, Glenn; [email protected] Subject: [BULK] RE: [EDI-L] Which VAN do you use? Importance: Low This is what I thought once: "But I thought to myself how would they really know?" Until I dealt with Dillards, which forced trading partners into using IBM (Advantis?) and would NOT accept interconnects. They followed through on this and my customer had to sign up with IBM. The way that Dillards knew was that they simply would not setup a trading partner relationship that was specified as an interconnect and IBM would not setup the interconnect either. Now this was a while ago and I know the VAN is probably no longer IBM/Advantis (is it Inovis now?)... Other trading partners were not as strict as Dillards in enforcing their "no interconnect" policy. This was about 4 years ago and I am not sure what their policy is like now. Earl, We have had this request/command before from some of our "partners". I asked if we could just do interconnects and was told flatly "NO!". We complied because the customer is king. But I thought to myself how would they really know? Customers get mad at a VAN, or are told by a VAN that they must have direct connections (AKA no interconnects). I agree with you that it shouldn't matter. ________________________________ From: [email protected] <mailto:EDI-L%40yahoogroups.com> [mailto:[email protected] <mailto:EDI-L%40yahoogroups.com> ] On Behalf Of Earl Wertheimer Sent: Thursday, January 24, 2008 11:54 AM To: Leah Halpin; [email protected] <mailto:EDI-L%40yahoogroups.com> Subject: Re: [EDI-L] Which VAN do you use? Leah & Lisa I've seen this before with other TPs where they say that interconnects are not allowed. Gottschalks, Linens N'Things, etc... There is no way that they can enforce this. Just have Sterling interconnect to one of their VANs. Maybe you should do some more investigating before you make such a major decision. I have no interest or relationship with Sterling, this just sounds like bullying or misinformation to me. > > Leah > > ----- Original Message ---- > From: Lisa <[EMAIL PROTECTED] <mailto:lisa_cannuli%40franklin.com> <mailto:lisa_cannuli%40franklin.com> > > To: [email protected] <mailto:EDI-L%40yahoogroups.com> <mailto:EDI-L%40yahoogroups.com> > Sent: Wednesday, January 23, 2008 9:43:06 PM > Subject: [EDI-L] Which VAN do you use? > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Circuit City is dropping Sterling as a VAN and will no longer accept > > data form them.
