The VAN's go to a large customer and say if you mandate that your
vendors use our VAN then we will give an extremely discounted or free
rate for using our VAN. The VAN then passes on the cost to the vendor.
The customer saves a lot of money. From the customer's perspective
it's a good business move.
Why on Earth would anyone care if an interconnect were used?
