At my last contract I wondered what was going on. A lot of the sales people
like to see the "raw" data.

Then ask for your assistance in "decoding" it, and they say....

I told them to download EDI Notepad. It is free and excellent for the EDI
novice.

Make reading a HUGE 850 an easy task for a sales person.

If you have sales people or others that want to read raw data, tel them to
go here: http://www.softshare.com/software/edinotepad/

I mean, the cost is right.....FREE

You forgot the part about getting beat up when the wrong package got
delivered, or when the department that's getting it doesn't know what the
package contains, or when the other party had some issue with your goods and
doesn't tell you about it...

Someone here said it recently and I've been repeating it like a mantra. "In
the EDI group, it's not necessarily your fault, but now it's your problem."

All the other stuff that you said is the easy part of EDI.

The EDI department is the shipping/receiving department. We take the goods,
package them, address them, make sure they get to the right carrier. We
receive the purchases, log them in, unpack them and get them to the right
department.

Wait, a better analogy is the EDI department is the Mailman

Mailmen do not write mail, nor do they create the packaging.

We just deliver it!
