Steve,
This is going to be industry dependent, I can clearly see from Earl's
comments.  In Automotive (manufacturing 830, 862, 856) it's the 856 that's
going to take the most time (unless you're dealing with JITs, that can
complicate the 830/862 process considerably).  As does everyone, we copy and
tweak.  It's that which allows the "average" of 1 day to do the gap
analysis/create mapping document, one to map and one to  test.  If you're
starting from scratch, it's going to take a lot longer.  If you're dealing with
documents you haven't used before, it's going to take longer.  If your industry
doesn't have (or doesn't follow) standards, each TP is likely to be a new
adventure.

It's also going to depend on  the tool you use, TP set up can take moments or
much longer, if you're going to be involved in that.

Good Luck,
Leah

I always clone new maps from existing, then make the TP specific changes.
I need about 1 hour per document. (810, 856)

I tell new clients that new outbound maps will not take more than 2 hours.

Incoming 850s do not need mapping, since they are very similar. I take about
30 minutes to review the IG and make sure that there are no surprises.

Sometimes I have to decide where to put a specific DTM that has a new
qualifier.

New incoming documents may take some time for the first one, since I have to
map the document to the database.

Testing is on an hourly basis.

I built a database to maintain the maps. It builds a CSV file which is
imported into the translator.

I would export my existing maps and put them online, but I haven't seen a
format that is useful for other people, yet...

If you have any ideas, let me know.
