Mike:

I've had the same issue: how to "queue" jobs (rather like job queues from
the mainframe days), but still work in an EJB environment - my answer was to
build a job queueing environment, and a seperate service/thread to handle
it, while still using EJB's where appropriate. If an example is of any use
to you, our framework is open-source, and you're welcome to a copy. It's at
