The EJB spec allows for the concept of a resource-reference. These are
typically used to hold data sources for JDBC, JMS, Mail, and other
resources. Obviously, an EJB container could provide a threading resource.
Although this will probably affect the portability of the Bean, it seems
like a good feature that could serve to differentiate one container from
another.

In some respect, the JMS resource reference (which I believe must be present
for J2EE compatibility) may be able to provide the asynchronous/queueing
behavior that has been discussed.
