CICS=Client Information Control System
CICS was developed by IBM in 1.968 to allow a client to "control"
information. I think it was California Water Authority or something.
In those days all information processing was done using batch jobs.
CICS was revolutionary in that it allowed on-line transaction processing
of the data. (Ian please correct me if I've got the facts mixed up ;-)

Get a copy of "Principles of Transaction Processing" if you are interested
in CICS.
