Sorry you came to Europe in vain, you might have checked copies of the Elbing church registers (protestant churches) in West Berlin at that time, nowadays you can have that near the Ostbahnhof at Bethaniendamm 29 on microfiches of Evangelisches Zentralarchiv- Kirchenbuchstelle. Bethaniendamm 29 in D-10997 Berlin Phones: 030 225045200 and 030 22504536 ( I hope you know what to do when calling Germany from the USA ) The Braunsberg church registers, starting in 1846 are in the catalogue as well. Let me advise you to contact the archives about the best conditions and dates before you start; I am afraid you will have to do the researching by yourself using some machinery. Unfortunatel<y they do not have the registers of Heiligenbeil as far as I can see, and I do neither know nor find any Pepalswalde in my "stock" of available information.
