I'm not sure if I'm using this "group" site properly but would like to
respond by replying to it. Possibly I should have responded to the
individual email addresses. In any event:
Thank you Fred and Uwe for your quick responses. They are very much
appreciated. It looks like I'm going to have to do some more digging
before trying to search further although I don't yet know how to go about
it. Your comments make a lot of sense and reflect some of the
misinformation that develops over time. It is unfortunate but for
reasons unknown my mother seems to have thrown out a lot of papers after
my father died and those that are left are meager at best. I know they
had passports and birth certificates but we couldn't find anything like
that and I'm relying for the most part on some conversations I had with
her and on which I kept notes.
We too are still snowbirds and have been going back and forth every year
since 1986. I'm writing this from the old homestead in Wausau,
