No, not at all compatible. I sort of thought you hadn't built anything yet, and the PIC-EL approach could give you similar functionality for a lot less bucks. Plus, there's other fun stuff to do. Actually, the QST project, I think, has a little more message memory, too. I seem to recall an external serial EEPROM there, the PIC-EL only has the F84's onboard EEPROM which is pretty limited.
