I used to give out "real" S-reports during contests. Too often that confused the other op who then asked for repeats. That slowed down the whole exchange.
I finally defaulted to "599" even though the only contest contacts I made were entirely by hand key. It just didn't seem polite to confuse the other guy going for the big score...
