I got some goofy results with loggers when I first hooked up mine too. Then I thought to check the RS-232 data rate settings. When you install the P3, it defaults to 38 K, and if your loggers are set to some other rate you will get garbage. Setting them to the same rate cleared things up here. - just something else to check.
