I did order the mic MH3. But I am sure when I am home, the cats and wife would rather not hear the chatter. So therefore why the need for a headphone

If you want to hold a PTT switch in your hand, you might consider the MH3 microphone that has built in PTT *and* frequency up/down buttons that allow you to tweak the receive frequency without touching the KX3 itself. A hand switch to work with the CM500 would require some sort of adapter as others pointed out. The KX3 uses a four wire TRRS mic connector (tip, ring 1, ring 2 and sleeve). Connecting the rings together puts the KX3 in transmit. That's why you must disable the PTT operation in the KX3's MENU if you plug in a mono mic connector such as the CM500 or the ProSet have.
