Thanks Vic and Frank I had only been using the CW part I guess stopped to soon that is the reason for the problem glad that that you answered. It was obvious that most had no idea of how well the DNR worked on the 5000 and some of it's very good features. It would be nice at times to bring up other radios in a discussion and not have some not offended by it because it isn't an Elecraft. The FT-5000 after all did have the best receiver in the testing done against the K3 but as I said I do have 2 K3's that should say something, both radios have their strong and weak points.
As with all reflectors (I belong to several) you must toss out a lot of the posts as ones that aren't well informed or just plain wrong. They all have their cheerleaders Yaesu, Elecraft, Icom are a few I subscribe to the Elecraft is the most active I must admit for sure. That is one thing I like about Elecraft is the quality of the posts for the most part, keep up the good work. To gain access to the K3 NR settings you need to press and hold the NR button (NR ADJ). The settings will appear in the VFO B portion of the display. There are a total of 32 noise reduction steps with the first 16 tailored to CW mode (F1-1 thru F4-4) and the remaining 16 tailored for SSB mode (F5-1 thru F8-4). While not as convenient as the variable NR setting on the FT5000, it's just as effective. You can read all about it on page 25 of the Operating Manual. 73, Frank - W6NEK ----- Original Message ----- From: "Fred Smith" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, September 02, 2012 2:39 AM Subject: [Elecraft] K3 DNR <SNIP> > Being rather new to Elecraft I have only had my K3's for about a month I'm > still searching for a way to continuously adjust the DNR from the very > lowest to the most aggressive with a dial while listing.
