Hi Kent:
Your getting a "firm" spring with the upgrade kit was a kitting error. If you got only one spring with your KXPD3 paddles, it should have been the firm spring. The P/N for the light spring in the upgrade kit instructions is wrong. The correct part number for the light spring is E980239 according to an e-mail from the factory this morning. We'll correct the upgrade kit instruction sheet. Hope that helps! 73, Ron From: KENT TRIMBLE, K9ZTV [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, October 28, 2012 8:44 PM To: Ron D'Eau Claire Cc: [email protected]; 'Elecraft' Subject: Re: [Elecraft] KXPD3 APPLICATION NOTE UPGRADE SHEET TYPOS Yup, you're right on all accounts, Ron. But typos and confusion still remain. If the original paddle that shipped with KX3 serial number 21 (kit version) had a "firm" spring, then why does my upgrade kit have an envelope labeled "E980218 Spring, KXPD3 Firm"? I don't need two firm springs. And how come the "light spring" envelope says E980239 when the parts sheet says "E980236"? Light is light, right? Surely there aren't two different "light springs" being shipped. And, in light of your reply, how do I know which spring came with the paddle to begin with . . . the firm or the medium? 73, Kent K9ZTV On 10/28/2012 9:57 PM, Ron D'Eau Claire wrote: You are looking at two different KXPD3 documents, Kent. Earlier KXPD3 all had the "firm" spring by default. After initial shipments and customer feedback, it was decided to build KXPD3s with the "medium" spring and include a firmer and lighter spring so the feel could be adjusted by changing springs. For those who already had KXPD3s with the firm spring, an upgrade kit was created that is documented by the KXPD3 UPGRADE KIT manual. That kit contained a medium and light spring for them to use for a lighter feel. That's why the upgrade kit document is a few days newer the original KXPD3 document. At the same time as the springs were changed, improved contacts were phased into the KXPD3. The new contacts are also included in the upgrade kit for those who had the early KXPD3s. If you got a KXPD3 with three springs, you do not need the upgrade kit. If you have an earlier KXPD3 and the upgrade kit, your key is now the same as current production. 73, Ron AC7AC -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of KENT TRIMBLE, K9ZTV Sent: Sunday, October 28, 2012 5:10 PM To: [email protected] Cc: Elecraft Subject: [Elecraft] KXPD3 APPLICATION NOTE UPGRADE SHEET TYPOS Gents. . . Reference Instruction Sheet supplied with KXPD3 upgrade kit, Revision B1, September 24, 2012: 1) Firstparagraph, second to last sentence reads, "The original spring is the stiffest." It should read "The original spring is the medium strengthspring." 2) Bottom of page 1, the Parts Supplied box shows the Light Spring as Part No. E980236. The Light Spring is actually Part No. E980239. 3) Bottom of page 1, the Parts Supplied box shows "Spring, Medium" Part No. E980240. It should read "Spring, Firm" Part No. E980218. 4) Everyone should note, however, that KXPD3 PADDLE INSTRUCTION, REVISION D, 9/21/2012 (3 days earlierbut 2 revisions later!) on the website in .pdf format DOES contain the correct information regarding springsand partnumbers. 73, Kent K9ZTV Jefferson City, MO ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
