Because it keeps the tangle of wires to a minimum given the way I have things laid out. Also, I usually only use the CM-500 mic for the Kansas QSO Party in August each year. Otherwise I am using an MC-60 desk mic. For 363 days it would be in the way! ;-) When not in use the headphones are laid off to the side and the wire is coiled up with them.
