The KPA is still set for RADIO= K3, right? Shortly after power up, the KPA will send its on state to the K3 using the Auxbus, but only if it is told the radio is a K3. The symptom is that this is not being received by the K3. The logical conclusion is that something is blocking it. Nothing messed up on pin 2 of the AUX cable, right?
I don't remember if the K3 must be told about the KPA (don't think so, but that would have been long ago...), but if so make sure of that setting.
