40 years ago, I found a foot pedal for an early IBM Dictaphone at a flea market. It has a switch in it that allowed the stenographer to press either side to go backwards or forward when typing the recorded dictation. I wired both sides together so pressing either side completed the circuit. It is 4' x 4", made of metal, heavy and has been in use for 40 years. Bob, K9ING

The advantage is that you don't have to pick it up to use it or put it down to type. Easy to wire up too. Buy an audio cable, lop off one connector, dress the leads out and connect them to the key binding posts. BTW, have you considered using VOX in the contest? Completely hands free.
