Petzl does make dimmable red ones. However, being an old-timer, I usually use an Orion flashlight that is very dimmable, and worn around my neck or held between my teeth. The Petzl ones I have have to be cycled between red and white to get to red dim, an offensive move at a star party. The best one I have ever used was from Crazy Ed Optical, but I cannot find a replacement bulb for it.
