When I fired up my first transmitter as a novice (a DX-20!), little did I know it was leaking into a break in the coax cable in the attic.
I found out two days later when a ham I'd never met copied my callsign off his TV. He looked me up in the callbook (I was a few blocks from his place), introduced himself, and helped me find and repair the cable. I ended up with a clean signal and a great Elmer. But this is not the good ol' days, apparently.
