I just ordered a K3/10 and a 1kHz 8 pole filter. I do both SSB and CW, more
CW than SSB, and would like to experiment with digital modes, etc.
Did I make a good choice, or what?

Hi Mike,

I most often use the 5 pole 500Hz for cw. I also have the 8 pole 250Hz
filter. The 250Hz is rarely used except during contests - CW and RTTY. When
things are really tight, the 250Hz with the twin peaks filter does a
remarkable job on RTTY differentiating between two closely spaced signals.
If I were to have only one filter for both modes I would opt for the 500Hz 5
pole. It has very nice gentle skirts and is good enough, along with the DSP,
for most situations. The 250Hz 8 pole is a brute - it has very sharp skirts.
There are times, though, when you really need the extra help.

Having said all that, I don't think you are going to be unhappy with the
1KHz filter. In the event you are not happy, I suspect you will have no
problem either trading or selling it. In the near future K3 filter
trading/selling will probably become very common around here.
