Mike,

I have been looking at the KRC2 manual and was reminded that the KRC2 can use serial band decoding. You might want to try it because it seems to be the easiest (but I am still unsure about the 6 meters/60 meters decoding.

You will have to set the K3 (and any logging/computer control applications) to work at 4800 bps because right now, the KRC2 can only use that data rate - that could change in the future, but right now it is fixed at 4800.

Install jumpers at W9, W10, W11, W15, W16, W20, W21, W22, and W23 to allow operation of a logging program (or other PC application) through the KRC2 and on to the K3 as well as allowing the KRC2 to communicate with the K3.

Then install a jumper on W3 to tell the KRC2 to use serial band decoding.

I believe that is all you need to do - other than providing power to the KRC2 through its coaxial power jack and connecting the KRC2 J2 connector to the K3 serial port . To connect to the PC, add a serial cable between the KRC2 and the PC - use standard serial straight thru cables.

I have not tried this combination, but from my study of the KRC2 manual, it should work just fine. I don't know how 6 meters is decoded, but I believe it may activate the 60 meter KRC2 outputs, with no output available for 60 meters (or maybe they map together - someone else will have to say).

Try it and let us know how it works.

Mike,

Try it using the AUXBUS control before connecting the BAND0-3 outputs from the ACC connector. If I recall, the AUXBUS control will also activate the 60 meter KRC2 output when 6 meters is selected on the K3.

Even if my memory is incorrect, it is worth a try, it is an easy matter to connect the AUXBUS signal from the K3 to the KRC2.

That is a very good idea Joe.

I will try but it will need pull up resistors fitting in the KRC2. Also
because I use transverters I will have to solder 4 more wires and it will need two multicore cables soldering onto that 15 way din and that is very difficult because of the size with a connector designed for only one cable.
I will also need to put an ALC line in there once the ALC +- issue is
finalised. I had hoped only to have the K3 linked simply through the KRC2 to
my transverters (like for my K2).
If only the non-atu version of the K3 had two outputs.

Mike
