Erik,

Most laptop built-in sound cards won't work for SDR because they only have mono (microphone) input. SDR requires a stereo (line) input.

That said, I have found that a USB sound dongle such as the SoundBlaster Live! 24 USB or the Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme USB work just fine with my laptop.
