First of all let me say thanks to all those who've contacted me with suggestions and words of encouragement.
Spoke with Dale at Elecraft (nice guy). Apparently #2737 suffered the dreaded switching matrix failure and needs to be sent back for repair. I say "dreaded" simply because it affects me and apparently has not been all that common among other units. I've had two or three other hams contact me whose K3 suffered this failure in the past (identical symptoms). Dale did not seem surprised when I described the situation, so clearly Elecraft has dealt with it before. Off to Aptos tomorrow.
