I am running Linux with lots of GNUstep applications. After
quite a while I just checked Emacs.app again to see whether it
is usable for daily use. I checked both the latest CVS trunk and
version 23.1. Both were simply unusable. When starting the
program I get lots of error messages to stdout (I temporarily
renamed my .emacs to make sure this did not cause any errors),
things like these:

2010-03-21 14:46:53.342 Emacs[4532] FTC_Manager_LookupSize() failed for
'Gulim-Regular', error 00000001!
2010-03-21 14:46:53.342 Emacs[4532] Error when loading
'/var/lib/defoma/gnustep-nfont.d/Fonts/Gulim.nfont/../../../../../../usr/share/fonts/truetype/baekmuk/gulim.ttf'
 (00000001)

and:

*** Warning: font in family 'Nimbus Mono L' not found
*** Warning: font in family 'Nimbus Mono L' not found

OK, these are simply fonts which cannot be loaded (though I
ask myself why they are obviously hard-coded in the
application). Now when the main window appears, the
minibuffer cannot be separated from the main window (the
grey status bar is invisible). When I open just any
file I will get "Wrong type argument: stringp, nil" and
the file is not even loaded (I still have *scratch*).

Just curious: is the project dead? Or is GNUstep no
longer supported? I must admit that I am a bit disappointed
to find this application that I once liked so much in
this state...

Cheers,

M'bert
