I know this subject has been dealt with exhaustively, but I wasn't paying
attention at those times!

So, it is full of chagrin that I ask the following:

A senior, very non-cyber-saavy friend of mine, using AOL for all his
internet/email needs on an IMAC with OS 8.6 cannot open any attachments I
send him because AOL converts them to MIME files (both an html text file
and a jpg file were listed in his attachment window as survivor.mim and
hi.mim).

I was visiting him yesterday and had only enough time for a cursory look
at his(extremely unorganized!) setup . I tried in vain to find where his
attachments were filed so that I could change their suffixes and try
opening them into his browser. I looked in the AOL folder and found a
downloads folder without downloads in it. Sherlock couldn't find anything
called attachments, downloads, survivor.mim or hi.mim. and nothing
obviously applicable came up under AOL. Unfortunately that was all the
time I had and will not be in hsi vicinity again soon.

I would like to advise him, in an easily understood way, as to how he
might deal with unopenable attachments, but haven't the foggiest how this
AOL program works. Any advice?

Is this only an Emailer/AOL non-compatibility that I can do something to
fix myself? I could send all text attachments in the body of messages but
how do I send a jpg file and have it arrive as such?

Thanks again,

Tannis
