In the AOL Application, under "My AOL" go to "Preferences" where you will find a list of various things to change. Under "Downloads" you have the choice to specify a "Downloads" folder. There is a "Button" to select the folder and a check box to "Always Start With This Folder." >>The only way to get around the problem that I have found is as I >>suggested above. Well, if the downloads are actually in a MIME format, rather than "merely" wrongly labeled, you are probably right. >I will suggest again that he use Stuffit to translate(as suggested by >Chris and Macorphans)although it might be too tricky for him. The mail part of AOL "should" put downloads there. >Chris suggested: > >>Normally, when sending attachments you should use AppleDouble as your >>default, but AOL doesn't seem to like anything but Base64 (all other >>formats it is pot luck if they will get thru correctly) > >which surprised me as I had sent him the attachments using my default - >Binhex - encoding thinking that as a Mac user that would be best - >thought Base 64 was only for Windows users - thanks for the tip! Probably an "artifact" of AOL's proprietary "UNIX" derived system. >By the way, > >*Is there a way of making AppleDouble the default?* Hmmm. I "thought" there was, but now can't seem to find one.
