If they blanked out DNS the same as the other entries, you wouldn't be able to manually type in DNS servers (er, I should say, they don't have a UI for un-greying-out a section, their kinda confusing solution is to leave it empty). Actually, now that I think about it, I swear 8.6 is the same way... grabs DNS, doesn't display it... I help an ex-coworker with her old Mac from time to time, she switched providers and I had to go over there and make sure her system was OK, despite cable support's insistence (turned out to be a setting on their end - too bad it took 12 hours to get them to admit & fix it).
